there should be particular weapons you should be able to acquire for example Narsil,Glamdring, etc or just really high stat items. Like Diablo 2 you should be able to acquire set items. each part of the set of Armour you have you gain extra bonuses and you get a big bonus if you complete it.

Indeed, but swords like Narsil should be almost impossible to acquire, so not everyone is running around with a totally hardcore, it should require time, skills and some luck to get it
"Forth! Down fear of darkness! Arise! Arise, Riders of Th?oden! Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! A sword day... a red day... and the sun rises! Ride now... Ride now... Ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending"

That is what I was thinking, but instead of using Narsil and Glamdring, which during this game have owners, the developers should pick other weapons which are talked about in the books.

Gear should not all be the same. Possibly gear would be identified by different makes as gear would vary in make from region to region as in from Gondor or from Rohan but it would be over complicating to make gear wear down and lose worth/effectiveness. This adds a component of requiring a player to find a place to repair it or find something new. Although some element of reality should be reflected in a game this is still a fantasy world we're talking about. Elements of time are complicating.

btw agree with The_Dark_Lord_Sauron, unique weapons known from the lore of the world should be available but not ones that are known to be owned by members of the Fellowship etc.

I like that troll idea. I'm really hoping there is more to the game than simply hacking and smashing orcs and trolls all the time.

Also, randomly generated weapons and armor, with different stats, so you never really find the same thing twice would be really cool.
I hope there are no 'randomly generated weapons and armor' myself. That is what a lot of these games do and they all build up and get found again and again. If you don't come across them very often it would not be so bad, but I agree with ancient weapons. There are plenty mentioned in tolkien's work. I think it would be cool for example if weapons that would of been lost from stories like the Children of Hurin could be found and used.

I thought Borderlands handled weapon drops quite nicely. There pretty much has to be a random element to item/weapon drops. Otherwise we would be looking at a few hundred different swords, instead of a few thousand. There will still be unique items to be sure. There is just no way the development team could hand craft every single item in the game. They will likely create templates that are customized by a random drop algorithm of sorts.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking about, when talking about randomly generated weapons, Borderlands system worked really well.
