    Hobbit Movie

    So I read where Peter Jackson will be making the Hobbit in 2-parts (yes old news I know). I was excited by this because they can really make the battle of 5 armies really epic and detailed. Well at the bottom of the article it had a link for another article announcing that Orlando Bloom will be back as Legolas. My first instinct was oh crap he is gunna butcher this movie all because of a blond "heart-throb" elf...

    Well, I received a call from my father yesterday (he stole my series) and reminded me of our discussion about "how can they put him in the Hobbit". Well he finished the book and realised that Legolas, although not physically in the book by name or character, is in the book. Let me explain.

    Remember Mirkwood where everyone gets captured by the wood elves, Bilbo breaks them out and smuggles them in wooden barrels? well good. The Elvenking of the wood elves who captured them, was Thranduil, who is Legolas's father. So although he was not specifically mentioned in the books he could have a small cameo in these scenes and I would be ok with it. I just feel more relieved with this revelation that my father brought to my attention.

    Whats your opinions on this?
    All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost;
    The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
    From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring;
    Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.

    I was also a bit displeased hearing about some of the old characters from LOTR reappearing - unsure what their effect would be on the movies.

    As a side note - if anyone hasn't yet seen them, Peter Jackson has been uploading production videos http://www.facebook.com/PeterJacksonNZ they're quite interesting and fun to watch in the build up to the films.

    I have a lot of faith in Jackson to produce quality regardless of who's in it and why - so hopefully the parts will meld into the story well and I know that PJ would be unlikely to butcher the original Hobbit books.

    Glad to see we are on the same page. I was worried but then we found the link for Legolas to be in the movie (just as long as he is not a part of the party), so then I could say "ok I will run with that".

    Thanks for the link for the updates. As if waiting for this game is bad enough the Hobbit is a LONG way away...

    Well as Galadriel is in it I think she'll e some kind of narrator
    Stranger: YOU SHALL NOT PASS!
    Me: But I want to enter my home!
    Stranger: You can't trick me! THE DARK FIRE SHALL NOT AVAIL YOU FLAME OF UDUN!
    Me: Guess I'll sleep in the street today...
    Stranger: Well then get this blanket and never come back!

    I share your concern as well, I hope Legolas is just a Cameo in the background not playing an active role in determining the fate of the movie. I also wonder what scene Peter Jackson will put himself in, like he did secretly in all of the LOTR Films.

    Galadriel is a member of the white council, if I remember correctly. During The Hobbit, while the dwarves and Bilbo are dealing with spiders in Mirkwood, woodelves, and then the men of Esgaroth (the lake town, probably butchered the spelling), Gandalf leaves them to deal with a problem in the south of Mirkwood. later on we learn he and the white council dealt with the Necromancer, who was really Sauron trying to come back into the world (which he later did in a much larger way during the Lord of the Rings trilogy). The white council defeated him temporarily. Peter Jackson is planning on taking that mentioned incident and expanding upon it, adding content that, though not really described in The Hobbit, is nevertheless contemporary with the story. I believe that is the main way Galadriel is coming into this movie.

    That sounds interesting, I am not sure if I think that is good or not... I know Jackson added tiny scenes into the trilogy, and those mostly turned out for the best! So I guess we should trust Jackson and pray for good results!

    My guess is the reason for LotR characters appearing in the hobbit is for the semi fans who watched the trilogy but haven't read the books. They're probably there so those people see more of a relation between the two stories. But, yeah, I am hoping they don't take away from the epicness by having too many cameos.
