I think that when you start out you will start on your own with the race you picked as your 'main', I think you will do some tasks in your starting area, earning favour with your race which leads them to send you to Rivendell on an important task.
Standing near was a huge man with a thick black beard and hair, and great bare arms and legs with knotted muscles. He was clothed in a tunic of wool down to his knees, and was leaning on a large axe.

Well that would make sense but it might just be an introduction like lotro does with their tutorial. Either way, we're meeting him!

That's the most reasonable. In Rivendell Elrond send us to scout the lands arround so that the ringbearer can begin his quest and perhaps after that comes the hard part where we will face Agandaur's assault.

Thanks everyone for replying to my first forum post! But so do you guys think it will be like oblivion and the race you pick is where you will start?
Pippin: "Anyway, you need people of intelligence on this sort of mission... quest... thing."
Merry: "Well, that rules you out, Pip!"

Gimli (Jumping and straining to see): "What’s happening out there?"
Legolas: "Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box? "

i dont think so , this is not bethesda nor EA lets focus about somethings more important which are gameplay & the whole storyline and i think from my point of view it dosent matter whether u ll play a few minutes in the beginnig of every race as a diffrent storyline (from me i didnt enjoy it in dragon age or oblivion)
    Aragorn: "Frodo… the Argonath!"

    "Long have I desired
to look upon the kings of old…
    my kin."

We dont have anything confirmed about that :F

But at least Elrond and Aragorn will be playing big part's in our story. And yes,as they have already said we will do some scouting around rivendell. Here is my Suggestion about how it should start

Well no idea how could there be as you and your friends stay in same party throghout whole game. But maybe your game could start from different places: Dwarf from Grey mountains,Dúnedain from Nree and Elf from Mirkwood. Then your first mission is go to rivendell and join to Elrond's council. After they have formed original fellowship of the ring,Elrond ask you and your two companions to step Forward, and tell's you about Problems in the North and after you have Agreed to help,he introduces Your new Fellowship and sets you to the North (after we have been scoutting around Rivendell)

    Dwarf from Grey mountains
Dwarves don't actually live in the Grey Mountains during the WOTR as far as we known, Erebor, Iron Hills and the Ered Luin are a better option. Bree is a good option for the Dunedain, but it might be better to start in the Angle, because the Dunedain actually lived there. Though starting in Bree, meeting up with a famous character who tells you to go to Rivendell might also work of course.

Yeah: I just picked those places cause game area seem to be somewhere between those,i didnt think about it more. Erebor/Iron hills/Ered luin sounds good for me too : >

This was at the old site, under "The area"

From the rolling hills of the Barrow Downs to the harsh peaks of the Grey Mountains and the overgrown forest of Mirkwood, this region encompasses untold mysteries and enclaves.
Im not sure if it means anything, though.

It might actually... I may have to edit my map again in the thread about inhabitants of the north that I posted. :P Area will probably be even smaller than the map I posted.
