you can easily get 16k by the time you would need to, just destroy all the little barrel things and you will get plenty of random treasure things

Aside: I think the perfect item to slot an Elf Stone of Fortune into (coins found x 2) is a pendant or ring.

Just keep trucking through the story. By about the end of the game you'll have enough to buy 10 of those stones. (I have like 350k currently, and keep about 5 respec stones on me.)

I found you can buy gear with x2 coins as well (have a helm from Sans Ford). Also I use items (shoulders and boots) that reduce vendor prices by 10% each. I finally got my 25k achieve but since I only play the ranger now, see no point in buying the respec stone for the lore-keeper like I originally intended...

On my heroic play-through after doing the gem stone quest i got an elf stone that was 5x more coins. I have over 1mil+ so I see little reason to even need to use something to get more coins since the most expensive thing is I have seen is about 120k I'm not buying weapons for my AI compains just so I have money to spend on something, bothers me when the stupid dwarf replaces his BA second age elven fire axe for some random orc sword.

By the time I finished Hero mode I had maxed out my money. Yep, I was at 999,999 and it won't go any higher. So... NO I don't think that 16K is too high.
