Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game

    Hey Guys,

Just wondering does anyone here play LOTR Strategy Battle Game. For those of you who don't know what it is, it is a tabletop war game fought with forces from the Lord of the Rings. It is a skirmish game, although there is war of the ring which is fought with much larger armies. It is made by Games Workshop who also created Warhammer and Warhammer 40`000.

Yeah, it's a good game! Haven't played for age though. Maybe I'll paint up some figures to represent the characters in WitN

I used to play it when it first came out. I want to get back into it but I really have no idea what to begin with. I want to start a dwarf army and I know that I need the Khazad Dum book for some of the model stats, but what about the main bulk of the rules for them? Do I need the Strategy Rulebook (the blue one) to know it all for sure?

I might actually just buy the Mines of Moria box that you can start with since I would like a nice plastic fellowship to replace the metal one from launch

I wouldn't worry about buying the Khazad Dum book unless you want it for the background or artwork, all the character profiles and special rules can be found here:

I reckon pick up the Mines of Moria set, that way you can learn all the rules, have a few practise games. Then when you want just buy some dwarf models (maybe some warriors and a hero). Oh and you might need the Legions of Middle Earth book.

Thanks for the help. I know the basics of the system since I played Fellowship & Two Towers as they were released but then I had a massive hiatus where I went back into Warhammer and such.

Again, thanks loads for the help; for all the time I looked at the GW site I couldn't find that page lol

Well first Id like to point out that there really is not such thing as a "dwarf army". There are two factions Good and Evil obviously. Its not like 40K or Warhammer Fantasy where there are different Factions, (40k --> Tau, Space Marines, Tyranids, Necron... // Fantasy --> High Elves, Dark Elves, Dwarfs, Men...)

While you can constuct an army of just dwarves, you open yourself up to the huge loss of both elven and human Heros (gandalf, aragorn, legolas, Haldir,.....)

To answer your question, yes you need Khazad Dum, and you can get the main rule book that came out recently, but the RTK rule book should work well.

EDIT: And to answer the OP question, yes I do play. Evil is the way to go, the Castellans of Dol Guldur are so fun to paint. I personally have 5 models of the Balrog all painted differently.

I have been trying to get War of the Ring. But, I don't think that I'm going to get that one.
