I think this would be an awesome idea. I hate it when your limited to a certain weapon or armor. This would make the replay value more fun too.

Indeed. Most games that have crafting systems and even ways to barter are appealing to me for that reason. I dont like racing games and i considered getting Forza motorsport 3 just for the cusomization options on the cars. Im suprized that RPG's havn't attempted something similar with weapons yet. Im sure it is only a matter of time though.
I have followed "The White Council" ever since it was announced. I am a LOTR fan and more importantly a Gondorian. Now that this game has been announced I am relieved to have a LOTR RPG. Still skeptical, but all the same relieved.
I'm not discounting the art of mining in Middle-earth. I'm discounting mining in a video game. It's just repetition in grunt work that requires almost no skill at all and would only benefit people who have time to mine x-amount of ores.Originally Posted by ArthurLorOermak
True indeed, but there are quite some mines scattered across the northen realms of middle-earth some still in service, others decayed, which depends on the timeframe. In my opinion mining is nice, but paying someone to mine for you is nicer :P and it would solve all the troubles of wasting your entire time mining and keeps players in the game and it's adventures. And as far as I know, dwarves have a very organized way of mining ore in their mines, which would make me think that that suggests they also sell those ores to those willing to trade with them, but that's just a thought.Originally Posted by Zach_MEC

It would be cool if you could buy weapons from a store as usual, then customizing them with extra things you find, like a grip for a sword that would increase it's accuracy, or reinforcing bands on a bow. they would alter the weapon's looks, as well as applying a bonus of sorts. But having your character, a hero and a warrior foremost, doing menial tasks like mining their own metal and making their own weapons just seems kind of unrealistic and silly.

I agree a warrior woouldn't be wasting his time mining for ore when he could just buy a weapon and then add the things he wants on the weapon later. It would be cool if you could buy weapons from a store as usual, then customizing them with extra things you find, like a grip for a sword that would increase it's accuracy, or reinforcing bands on a bow. they would alter the weapon's looks, as well as applying a bonus of sorts. Now let us AGAIN take Oblivion into account because, well it seems like everyone has played it.
The Emperor dies in the beginning and you are to take the amulet of kings to Jauffre. While that's happening, Kvatch is in a siege and people are in a church not being killed. It seems pretty big that you can hold off on the campaign almost whenever you want, and the main campaign is on standby the WHOLE TIME.
Get my point? Just because you are on an adventure to destroy Sauron's Forces of Minions doesn't mean you can't kick back and make some weapons and armour.
Gandalf: 10,000 Orcs now stand between Frodo and Mount Doom. I've sent him to his death.
Aragorn: YEP!
I totally agree with you there. I mean, in my opinion a true warrior would take his time to build his own equipment to suit his needs, and that includes crafting your own weapons and armor, what other person than a warrior would like building weapons if not to use them. It has never been said that a warrior can't be a smith at the same time, hell it's almost obvious that a warrior would be one :POriginally Posted by ArcticSquirrel

I would be suprised. This game does not seem very online....
I like to lift heavy things.
If any mining in the game, I would very much suggest it'd be only for visual improvement rather than stat/whatever. This would make the game more based on skill than the stats your equipment and armour has.
